Interview with Style Bouquet

Photobucket
I got to interview Abi of Style Bouquet. I love the way she put together an outfit. So sweet and ladylike. Her outfit always make me smile. I really enjoy reading her answer to the question I give her. Hope you do too...
Where are you?
Currently in Toronto

When/Why did you start your blog?
I was browsing through the arts section of a bookshop when I stumbled upon a book on fashion history that left me curious and eager to learn more. I went home to do some research and I don’t know how or why, but Jak and Jil popped up on my results page. Back then, I had never heard of a fashion blog, and was thrilled to discover so many of them coming from different angles. They got me through endless study sessions. Over the years, I was inspired to start one of my own but kept procrastinating. I had a bit of time of my hands at the beginning of summer and thought there is no better time than now; I started June, 2010

How would you describe your style?
I don't think I have a very definitive style....at least not one I can describe using adjectives. I wear what feels good to me at the time, depending on my mood and the occasion. Of course, this attitude sometimes has me looking back in horror and going “Blimey, what was I thinking?!”

What does fashion mean to you?
You know how sometimes you go through life and have that one song that brings back a memory, leaves you with a wave of emotions or just makes you want to get up and dance; like a soundtrack to a perfect summer? Well, right now, fashion is that one song for me. I’m having fun with it, and I’ve only just pressed play

What other fashion blogs would you recommend?
There are two blogs I visit often: Igor+Andre for interlinking art with fashion, and Garance Dore for her very witty text

Who takes your pictures?
Sometimes my lovely sister, other times I take them myself....thank God for self-timers

What camera do you use?
Nothing fancy; a Sony Cybershot N50

What trend do you hate the most?
I don't hate any trend per se, but anything that is overtly sexy is not for me

What trends do you like from this season right now?
Fall is fast approaching, and I’m looking forward to wide-legged trousers, 1950s full skirts, chunky knits and capes

What is your all time favourite movie?
All time? No fair. That’s hard to narrow down, so how about three from the past decade? The Kite Runner with Khalid Abdalla and Shaun Toub (also a good read), 500 Days of Summer starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, and a French film Jeux d’enfants (with English subtitles- Love Me If You Dare) starring Marion Cotillard and Guillame Canet

Do you have any favourite brands and/or designer?
I frequent vintage shops more often than not, but I do love Urban Outfitters for its retro and bohemian pieces and Zara for its ever changing inventory. I also have a sizable collection from the Canadian brand Jacob.
If I had my way though, I would buy out Chloé, Isabel Marant, Dries van Noten and Lanvin. I love the direction that Phoebe Philo (and now Hannah MacGibbon) took Chloé, with refined and modern pieces that reflect a quiet confidence. Isabel Marant has a nonchalant cool and easy-chic vibe that I find very refreshing. The eccentricity of Dries Van Noten always stands out with the mix of vibrant colours and mish-mash of prints
And what’s not to love about what Alber Elbaz does for Lanvin? He creates beautiful pieces while focusing on silhouettes, cuts and simplicity of form. I love that. I’m sure I am not alone when I say that the H&M and Lanvin collaboration has me waiting with eager anticipation. I’ve never been one to stand in line for one of these, but I envision myself out there with a tent 3 days in advance sleeping with one eye open

Who’s your fashion icon and why?
I don’t keep track of any one particular person. I am more inspired by the personality exuded when a person is dressed a certain way; as such, I guess you could say that I am inspired by everyone and anyone. So for example, the free spirited nature of the characters in the film Across the Universe, the elegance and glamour of the 1950s, the quirkiness and eccentricity on the streets of London, or the chic and confident flair of Parisian style. If someone wears a trash bag and walks around like they’re wearing the most precious gift to mankind, then I would most definitely consider wearing a trash bag the following day.
